Healing Meals is dependent on youth and adult volunteers to deliver meals to families in a health crisis. Our youth volunteers work with adult mentors to prepare, cook and package nutrient-rich meals. During the process, youth learn soft skills (i.e. communication), technical skills (cooking) as well as a strong understanding that food can be medicine.
We are the only non-profit in Connecticut with the ability to experientially teach about healthy foods from ‘start to finish.’ Volunteers can harvest produce from the organic garden, prep food, cook, package and deliver healing meals to those in a health crisis; the experience is transformational for everyone involved.
All of our volunteers receive the training they need in our orientation process. In addition, they receive on-going support from our amazing Volunteer Manager, Chrissy Barnard.
