Janely Betances

Bilingual Community Liaison

Janely graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Western Connecticut State University with a concentration in community health. Her love for community work began in high school. She was always involved in helping different organizations and had the opportunity to work for many nonprofit organizations over the years. Janely has extensive experience working in different neighborhoods filled with different cultures, the underserved population, and minorities throughout the state of Connecticut. She has educated the community on many different topics including fitness, nutrition, immunization, COVID-19, healthcare, insurance, and mental health.

Janely loves being the bridge for the community by helping to break down barriers, building trust and advocating for community health. Being bilingual in Spanish has been extremely useful. Spanish is the second most common language in the state of Connecticut. Because of her fluency, Janely is able to speak with Spanish-speaking clients and create a safe space for them.

Self-care is something that’s dear to Janely’s heart. She loves to travel and find fun adventures. Whether it’s local or out of the state. She is focused on her health and wellness journey. Janely loves dancing, hiking, and running– essentially, anything that involves moving her body and being creative. Janely also loves surrounding herself with family and friends.

As soon as Janely walked through the Healing Meals doors, she automatically felt the positive energy from the staff and volunteers. In her words, the work that Healing Meals does is just incredible. In this new role as a Bilingual Community Liaison, Janely is grateful to be working with a great organization, connecting with new people and making a difference in people’s lives.
